There is something undeniably beautiful about bringing home your second baby.
The way their tiny fingers wrap around yours.
The quiet moments where the world slows down.
The overwhelming love that somehow just… multiplies.
It’s sacred.
But there’s something else I wish more moms felt safe enough to say out loud:
This season is really, really hard.
Not just “adjusting” hard.
Not just “a little tired” hard.
But the kind of hard that settles deep in your bones.
The Parts No One Talks About
No one really prepares you for how exhausting it feels when sleep becomes broken pieces instead of something whole.
Or how emotional it can be when nursing doesn’t come easily—especially when you thought it would this time.
Or the quiet loneliness that sneaks in, even though you’re never actually alone.
And when all you see online is how magical this season is…
it can leave you wondering:
Why does this feel harder for me?
Am I doing something wrong?
Is it me… or my baby?
Let me say this clearly:
It’s not you.
And it’s not your baby.
This is just a stretching season.
Your First Baby Isn’t as Big as They Suddenly Seem
One of the most beautiful parts of this season is watching your first baby become a big sibling.
It will melt you.
But it will also surprise you.
Because the child who felt so tiny just weeks ago suddenly seems so big.
But they’re not.
They are still so little.
Still learning.
Still needing you in ways that don’t disappear just because a new baby arrived.
And when you’re running on empty, their loudness and needs can feel overwhelming.
You may find yourself being shorter than you want to be.
Less patient.
More reactive.
And then the guilt comes in just as quickly.
If You Feel Like You’re Failing… You’re Not
You are not failing in those moments.
You are adjusting.
You are being stretched.
You are mothering two children who both need you deeply—just in different ways.
This isn’t a failure.
This is transformation.
An Honest Note From a Mother (and a Photographer)
If I could, I would show up at your door with coffee, hold the baby while you rest, and document this season for you—just as it is.
The love.
The chaos.
The in-between moments that don’t feel perfect, but matter the most.
I would give that freely.
But I also have to honor my own family in this season too.
What I can give you is this:
A reminder that this stage is worthy of being remembered.
Not because it’s perfect.
But because it’s real.
Why This Season Still Deserves to Be Photographed
Years from now, you won’t remember every sleepless night.
But you will remember:
- How tiny they were in your arms
- How your first baby reached for you
- How your family grew in ways you never expected
This is the beginning of a new story.
And it deserves to be held onto.
If you’re in the thick of this season right now, I see you.
And when you’re ready, I would be honored to document your motherhood story—just as it is.
